1st DFMC Team Run
This Saturday was my very 1st DFMC team run. I had been looking forward to it for weeks. I was so ready. Mentally I was ready. Mileage wise I was ready and then Thursday snuck around and all my preparedness went down the drain.
Colin had a terrible accident at school. He's fine. We are lucky and blessed and so thankful. Sooo thankful. A trip to the ER and still as handsome as ever, even with 18 stitches in his head but as a Mom, I crumbled. I didn't sleep Thursday night through Saturday morning. I had maybe one bottle of water in that 36 hours and I just wasn't myself. So I texted my 2 runner-go to- all around inspirational ladies in my life and both of them had the same response.
"You neeed this." I just didn't want to leave him but I did need THIS. Thank you SIL and thank you Sandy.
So without a doubt (just kidding there were many doubts and more minutes of sleep lost in the doubts) I got up on Saturday morning to my chariot awaiting. My beautiful friend and inspiration Sandy picked me up and we drove to Wellesley as she volunteers at every single DFMC run for Team Matty. Sandy lost her beautiful boy to cancer and she is a true super hero and super mom because whether she knows it or not she saves people every single day.
I cannot tell you the amount of people who ADORE this woman. Every single runner she introduced me to, the convo went something like this...
Sandy: This is my friend Tara, she's a 1st timer with DFMC
So & So: Sooo nice to meet you, WE LOVE SANDY.
Repeat that times about 100.
We all love Sandy and her beautiful boy and her beautiful family and her beautiful, kind, sweet and necessary "You need this." Attitude.

And then I met Kerry. I sort of knew Kerry. I knew of Kerry because I am great friends with her brother Jimmy and I adore her mom Molly. So I knew... Kerry would be just as awesome. Kerry is just this incredibly positive role model for everyone, especially me, especially yesterday. We ran together the whole 10 miles and it was a really positive run for all but like all runs, there are hills and it was long and it was cold and...and...and.
At one point someone said, "Kerry do you have a positive answer for everything?" Because she does. She can put a spin on anything and it makes you stop and think, "Wait. What just happened? And your smiling." I cannot wait to log many more miles with this chic.
With all of them... because everyone is awesome.
So we did it and there was an incredible opening story of inspiration and hope and teamwork. The mileage to log yesterday was between 8 -10 but after that we couldn't NOT do 10. We had such great conversation on the run and that made the run go by much quicker. There were equally amazing water stops, especially this one with our beautiful friend and her beautiful boy. There were incredible cookies baked by one of the runners at the end. And we didn't get back so late that there were none left. We made great time!
I'm just so thankful and blessed to be a part of this journey. From the 1st team meeting, to the 1st team run, I know there will be many more 1sts. I am doubting myself less and less. After yesterday, I truly believe... I can do this. And to think I almost didn't go because I was feeling so bad for my boy.
Who, if asked, I know would have said "Go Mum go!"
I came home to presents. Thank you DFMC. I love presents.
I will wear it all proudly.
We were so welcomed by Marathon Sports. What a great place to start our 1st run and if need be... get some awesome gear.
I'm just so happy that I did it. That I had the push I needed to just do it. And I came home to my boy who is healing nicely. Christmas is just around the corner as is vacation... I plan to do nothing but hang out with my loves, log lots of miles, eat lots of food and gear up for the next DFMC team run.
Even with stitches, he's the most handsome boy.
And the sweetest. Kid. You. Will. Ever. Meet.
Thank you for following my journey to kick cancer's ass. It means the world to me. It means the world to my family.
Wishing everyone a wonderful holiday season with family & friends.
So much love.
So. Much. Love.

And totally random but maybe not so random, we always say pennies rain from heaven when we find them on the ground. We always used to say Nana sent down pennies for good luck. Then we would say Gram and more recently Aunty Shirley. As soon as we got to the ER we walked in and I happen to look down and see this.
Thanks Shirl. We needed luck, lots of luck. Thanks for watching over our boy.
